ABOUT ME
This site is all about me embracing the commercial side of my work. I have so much of it and I LOVE to do it....so why not make the entire site about it! There are very few images on this site that weren't assigned to me by a client. Yes, I know, my Personal Work would show you more about ME! and what I'll bring to your project...well, kind of, sometimes, but not really. I'm designing this site to say, "Hey! Someone else told me to take this picture and look at the outcome...looks good, right? I want to do the same for you!"
I began photography while employed as an editorial assistant at Metropolitan Home magazine, my first job out of college. I remember the day the editor in chief, Dorothy Kalins, said to me, "Hey will you buy a tripod...I may publish some of these pictures some day." So I did. (Beginning a life long career of doing exactly what Dorothy tells me to do! She's just that brilliant.) However, it took a decade and an interim career as a stylist, working with amazingly talented photographers who taught me so much about light and composition, working together on major advertising campaigns for Ikea, Karastan, Hunter Douglas, KitchenAid, Thomasville and GE to name a few, before the day came when I saw my own name beside an image in a national magazine.
My photography career took off just as my daughter was born. (Of course...God forbid it was going to be easy!) The career morphed from an emphasis in interiors (Metropolitan Home, House Beautiful, Country Home and House & Garden) to food (Food & Wine, Saveur, Bon Appetit, Gourmet) to travel (Town & Country Travel, Conde Nast Traveler, National Geo Traveler, Outside Magazine) to people and lifestyle (InStyle, Town & Country, Martha Stewart Living, Real Simple, O, The Oprah Magazine, More Magazine) and back again and again and again, cycling through so many fascinating, challenging and lovely subjects. My editorial work created an entree into the advertising and catalog worlds (Jonathan Adler, Starbucks, Ralph Lauren, Nieman Marcus, Pottery Barn, Garnet Hill, Rockefeller Center, Talbots, Avon, Kmart, Colgate, Colonial Williamsburg, American Plastics, Wells Fargo, Pier One, Ocean Spray, Fisher Price, Hewlett Packard, Lexus, Febreze, Botox, Weight Watchers, Minwax, Armstrong Floors, Pepperidge Farms) and recently cookbooks (Danny Meyer's The Gramercy Tavern, Michael Anthony's V is for Vegetable, John Besh's Cooking from the Heart, My Family Table and Besh's Big Easy) creating images for clients, a large number of whom have become close friends, giving me the enormous opportunity to fill this website with imagery that, yes, I created for them and not me... but I'm in there in every way, all the way.
